I'm curious what you think. Do you think the church is heading in the right direction or have they missed a turn or two along the way? Let me know. You can post anonymously if you want to truly speak your mind.

Is the Church going in the right direction?
Ive been thinking alot lately about the current state of the evangelical church. I wonder if this is truly what God intended the church to look like? Would the services look different if Jesus was pastoring a church? Would there be concert lights, big screens, coffee shops, clothing stores, ect?

I miss the simplicity of church. Things have become to complicated.
ReplyDeleteWell, in my opinion, God created us differently. We have the spirit of worship in ourselves, but so long as we have a multitude of different pastors we're going to have a multitude of different ways to minister to people. God called us to be creative and inventive in our ways of worshipping Him, and I don't think we should overcomplicate the matter by focusing too much into how we worship, so long as we are not worshipping idols, or worshipping using any form of media that is offensive to the Lord (I.e. - sex, statues, etc. etc. just look throughout the old testament), and so long as we are providing good examples in society from we learn in worship.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I've noticed in a lot of churches is just how different people are outside of church than they are inside. I work in retail, and, all the time, I've seen church people be the i-rate customers in register lanes holding up traffic while yelling at the cashier wanting a free movie or something after being told no.
These are the same people running red lights, speeding in school zones, and generally providing bad examples in society. They complain if their food is prepared incorrectly, they complain if the pastor said something that offended them, they just COMPLAIN, and that is all they do. I call it a "retail" mentality, because, like retail customers, they complain when something doesn't go right and expect compensation for their inconvenience. Where's the love?
Where I think the evangelical church made the wrong turn is that they are too focused on matters that I normally call "feel good" messages, that they miss out on primary problems in our world today: Violence, crime, sexuality, etc. etc and, as such, people have nowhere to go to become educated. The only education they receive is, "It's natural to feel the way you do, just use a condom!"
There is no love. You get hugged, greeted, and spoken to positively in person but venom drips when your back is turned. A person will tell you that they love you with the love of the Lord, but when push comes to shove there simply is no room for you. The reason: Selfishness.
Love is being drained out of our world more and more each day because selfishness is slowly taking over. It is because the evangelical church doesn't really address these issues (instead focusing more on messages that teach you how to manage money and manage family, etc. etc.) from what I've seen anyways.
Anyways, that's what I think. The evangelical church, if Jesus had it his way, wouldn't really be an organization or congregation. It'd be a home. When you walk into a church, and you get that refreshing feeling of walking into another person's house, you are at home. If you walk into a church, and that's what it is to you, a holy building with all of these rules and regulations, it's just a building that is dead inside.
